Blas Herrera was dispatched to scout for the approach of advancing Mexican troops led by Gen Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna before the siege of the Alamo. In February, Herrera returned from Laredo with the news that Santa Ana's army was crossing the Rio Grande River and was marching into Texas. The report was recived by Juan Seguin and relayed to Travis but the report however was referred to as "more Mexican lies". Blas Herrera is referred to the "Paul Revere" of the Alamo.
